My dad was in north Georgia for the week due to his job. He had to take a training course that took all day. Today was his last day and before he headed back home to Chicago, he wanted to spend some time with me and take a trip down south to see his parents.
My dad and I don't have the closest relationship. We never did but I grew up with my father. For a while, he was both mom and dad before he remarried a wonderful woman, I call mama!He was very much a good father but he wasn't the most affectionate. Some days he is cool and others he is such an asshole to be around. As I get older, I realize how much I remind myself of him.
Anyway I took my father out for lunch at Chilli's. At first it was super awkward but over time we sat and talked family gossip and man stuff. I realized in that moment how much it's blessing to have your parents and to spend time with family.
But here is the gag….
In the midst of talking about one of my uncles, I happen to mention the strip clubs that are here in Atlanta. Anyone, who lives here knows that there is a strip club on every corner….LITERALLY. Now my dad is extremely concervative when it comes to hanging out in bars and clubs. He is a homebody as I am and obviously much older. Not to mention HAPPILY married!
What he said to me floored the hell out of me…He said he wanted to go to one of those strip clubs I mentioned…a titty bar of course.
Now I am gay as a glittered fruit cake and he knows this. I have no shame in going to a titty bar because in all honesty, it's just as fun as the male clubs. But the THOUGHT of my father tagging along with me is mind blowing.
He insisted on going too! The devil on my shoulders told me to go ahead and take him but my mama on my right shoulder told me, she will whoop my ass if I did so I opted against it.
It put a big smile on my face. My dad knows I am gay as a skittle and still wouldn't mind chilling with me at a strip club. My brothers would be jealous..LOL
It's such a blessing to have your father in your life though…
If you know of your father and he is still here on this earth! Make sure to spend time with him and let him know how much he means to you! Be that loving son and take him to the titty bar! Just don't tell mama!
