Chris Dano began his career at the age of 18 for Catalina Video in 1988. Even working before condoms were standard for mainstream gay porn, as seen in Brother Trouble 1 and a couple of others. He swore he would never bottom, then just weeks later bent over for Paul Morgan in the movie Drifter.

He has changed his name more than a dozen times, and to this day continues this practice. The only thing that has changed more is probably his hair. An ever-evolving mess. He has gone from the Box Top that was common or African-Americans at the time (late 80’/early 90’s), to letting his Soul Glow with a Jehrri Curl, a style he still falls into every now and then. To extensions, full on weaves of blonde, black, and gold, a Buzz cut, and even cornrows. (Luckily his body, and beautiful ass serve as great disctractions.)

One of the most intriguing things about Mr. Dano is his unusual look. He is usually mistaken for biracial (black/white), but he is not. To my knowledge, like another usual male, Valentino, he’s actually Hawaiian. He, like Valentino, was reluctant to be cast as “black” in films, and even refused to work with African-American performers for a while, just as Valentino did.

But as work didn’t fly off the shelf everyday, the desire for money changed both of their minds. Making both of them staples in the “interracial” & “all black” movie markets.

It is also rumored that he escorted as an African-American in his photo-less newspaper and later Internet ads, as to not encounter any issues when arriving. I was told that he used to market himself without a race listed, or even as “blonde” in some of his ads, and was turned away by a few tricks when he arrived. I guess this way; he’s just a “caramel latte” surprise. (Wonder if he takes his magazines?)

Darting in and out of the straight and gay genres over the years, even leaving it all together for a while in the early ‘90’s, Mr. Dano’s had a very diverse career. Starting with the second biggest gay company at the time (Catalina) and working for unheard of straight companies that make Leisure Time look like Warner Brothers, only to see them flip flop entirely in the last two years.

His gay videos in the past few years have all been for low-level companies, but he has since worked in straight porn for Vivid, Red Light District, Evil Angel, among others.

He also became a constant face on many internet reality sites, such asMomsiwouldliketofuck and the Discount Reality Porn Sites roster for well over a year, also working for many other straight and transsexual reality sites. He was riding high until one fateful “episode.”

That episode would occur on the site Gangbangsquad. A site that, by visual definition from the first episode on, pits one female (usually white) against 5 black males. Dano was a regular, appearing in well over 50 episodes within the first year of the site. But there was a twist to this episode. It starred an up and coming new male star named Jay Huntington.

Mr. Huntington and Mr. Dano go way back. Mr. Huntington, best known as Chance Caldwell, and Mr. Dano have worked together several times on and off film. The two were even rumored to have dated for a few months, with Dano living with Mr. Caldwell during a break up with his longtime “friend” and live-in male companion.

After Mr. Caldwell and his companion reconciled, the two became enemies. This was complicated by the fact that they escorted and promoted themselves in the same circles, and had become a frequent duo at some sex clubs and other gay performing places around the country.

The two also encountered each other in countless transsexual films such as Olivia Love’s Tranny Gang Bang, and a few others. Even more recently this past year for Red Light District’s transsexual video Something Extra #2. But no movie would be as contingent as the aforementioned Gangbangsquad scene.

In this scene the two engaged in the usual gang bang fair with a chick. Nothing unusual there; but after the scene was over, Mr. Caldwell, either still reeling from the bad blood between the two, or just your typical “gay panic” moment, decided to tell all of the stars on the set, and the director, and company liaison, that Mr. Dano was a gay porn star. And that he worked with transsexuals.

Mr. Dano has not appeared in any new heterosexual scenes for this company since this took place. He has shown up on their gay outlets a few times. Once even wearing his shades throughout the scene to obscure his face.

Not the first time he’s tried to avoid his past. A transsexual photo series that starred Dano, Mr. Caldwell, Jack Hammer, and others; Mr. Dano requested that the tattoo that appears on his bicep be removed to help curb his identification. If you ever come across a picture with a large white spot on his arm, you now know why.

How this will play out, I have no clue. Most of this has just occurred in the past couple of months. To my knowleged Mr. Dano is making his ends meet by working for Blacksonboys and the usual “fan meetings” if you catch my drift.

Again, I am not ready for the whole gay/bi/straight debate, but it’s really odd that the straight industry banishes some men for having a gay past, yet rewards so many others. Using them as much as, if not more of a movie’s marketing than the female performers.

For every Dano/Ekzavir, there is a Caldwell/Huntington. For every Frank Towers/Mark Slade, there is a Rick Ritter/Nick Jacobs. And so on. Quite disheartening. Quite mind-boggling. Quite unnecessary, but it happens.

I hope Mr. Dano is doing well and continues being the sexy, if not odd looking, cutie that he is. Even if he still uses the “I need to look at straight porn to cum,” routine. Hopefully he’ll continue with either career.
