Ask Luckey: A Long Story About Soft Porn Web-Series…

Spread the love

Now Luckey,

Watch Now!

Hello, Long message… Now I ain’t trying to be funny or throw shade on sunny day while at a Florida beach wearing shades or anything, but I was just wondering with the decline of several black LGBT sex shows… I mean webseries 😅, do you miss the pioneer show makers and their shows geared towards black men like Noah’s Arc, DL Chronicles or movies like The Skinny or Black Bird? It seems like Black gay/bi men are underrepresented and are regulated as just sex symbols or that side character. We don’t get an Insecure, Blackish or Grown-ish…just a Dick-ish…🤔 Now I’m not complaining about the nudity. I love a naked “chocolate” man like anyone else, Trey Songz will be tied up naked for me soon enough but… I’ll be honest with you, I miss Patrick Ian Polk. His stories weren’t extra deep but they had a cinematic flare to them & were very entertaining. What the hell happened to him? More importantly, what has happened to the black LBGT male representation in film and TV shows? There are plenty of white centralized shows from past and present like the cool Queer as Folk, Looking, Cucumber, King Kobra, Dantae’s Cove, The L Word,…etc but no black standouts currently. All of our shows got canceled or were tossed aside like Latoya Jackson’s music career. When a black guy does appear on a show like as above, he is most often paired with a white male lover. Even black LGBT females are underrepresented. Noah’s Arc, DL Chronicles, Moonlight, a lil bit of L.A. Complex are all I can think of with black on black male relationships (outside of just sexual) in the U.S. Why are all we have now sex sh..I mean web shows? Are certain black web shows really just Softcore porn masquerading as the next wave of LBGT entertainment? Do you think it really paints a generic pic for black gay men? Do you think Jovonnie would be sexy with a perm like Snoop Dogg? I think he’d be a cool pimp…🚬 I still have my Noah’s Arc and DL Chronicles DVDs…so I watch them from time to time. Good nostalgic vibes…

Dear Jay,

Whoa….you said there was NO shade in the forecast but Mother Nature determines that was a lie….LOL!

Now you were asking a whole lot of questions but I am going to try to answer at least some of them.

I do think Jovonnie would be sexy with a perm or even a blowout. I like his dreads though.

Patrik Ian Polk is still around making moves and making movies.

Now about the sex-fueled web series. We talked about this subject before and I think everyone was pretty much on the same page. Sometimes too much is TOO MUCH.

Sex scenes in gay web-series and shows, in general, is nothing new. Gay men are driven by sex by natural. Shows like Queer As Folk and Dante’s Cove featured sex scenes often. Even Noah’s Arc and DL Chronicles had a sex scene in just about every other episode.

Web series on Youtube/Vimeo have been on the rise for quite some time now but I am noticing that they are using sex scenes as a way to reel people in and now some shows are hiring adult entertainers to help garner more views which is obviously working.

I am just going to put this out there. The REAL reason we are not seeing much representation of same gender loving men of color in television and movies is because the market is simply not there. It’s all about dollars and cents. If we are not physically (AND financially supporting) the writers and filmmaker’s work than the people upstairs are not going to put any money behind the project.

We bitch and complain about there being too much sex and porn stars in our favorite web-series but they are only popular because WE are talking about it and unconsciously supporting it. Even then, we are ranting off a video clip that was probably stolen and uploaded on Myvidster.

Let’s talk about the support in the black gay community. Here in Atlanta, we have Black Gay Pride and MLK Weekend. Back in the day, they used to have summits during the day that cover various issues in our community. I think maybe half of a handful people showed up. Meanwhile when you stick Arquez and *insert favorite female artists/reality show star* on a club flyer and the building will be filled to capacity. Mind you the cover charge is like 30 bucks and up. Don’t get me started on strip clubs and sex parties.

The point is SEX sells and people are buying it. According to dollars and cents, the black gay community as a whole is not showing up and showing out for shows like Noah’s Arc or even Honest Men which translate that there is no money to be made there.

It is what it is.

We need to stop complaining and put our money where our mouth is. Stand behind one of these up and coming filmmakers and help them make magic. Of course, just like any other demographic, we deserve a decent cast with a superb storyline but we have to SUPPORT with our dollars…

The next time we get another Noah’s Arc or L.A. Complex we need to tune and write in. Let them know that we appreciate them. Don’t be so quick to be critical and use that as an excuse as to why you ain’t supporting…

Just my take..

Luckey
